Re: Robin Hood Gardens
The best way to save the estate is to allow the building of a mini mosque and open up a pop up halal farmers market. This will help to regenerate the area with hipster Koranic types.

Tru dat tru dat.

Why? Did you see a black person there or something?

Re: Robin Hood Gardens
I don't give a shit what a freak like you thinks of what I post MPH. But from my experience the Barbican is a failure.

sorry mentor, you did indeed say 'hardly any'. I stand corrected

Re: Robin Hood Gardens
Did I say no pubs? But there are very few in the immediate area.

Re: Robin Hood Gardens
mentor, that made me actually laugh out loud.

Stepney

The issues are not with the design.

They are with neglect and poor maintenance and the allocation of the flats to certain social groups and the environment that both created.

Your conclusion is wrong by the way.

Re: Robin Hood Gardens
The Barbican is a failure. There is no community. The immediate area, when you consider where it is and the fact that it has a superb Arts venue, is bereft of anything to do. Hardly any pubs or restaurants.

Re: Robin Hood Gardens
Why is it far from ideal as housing?

Re: Robin Hood Gardens
I think it should be listed and preserved exactly as it stands today...

....as a reminder of how NEVER to build social housing again!

The place is an absolute cunt hole and is in large down to the design and layout of it. British architecture at its worst imo.

My old man lived there for a while and I've spent many a day night staying there, so have first hand experience of it. Can only come to the conclusion you don't MPH.

Re: Robin Hood Gardens
It's horrible.
What many overlook is that whilst this type of architecture is fine for art galleries, theatres and power stations, it's far from ideal as housing.

I actually like modern / brutalist style too but that is not nice.

It is Grade II listed E3.

I love it.

Re: Robin Hood Gardens
lowermarshhammer - that's a social problem not a building problem.

theaxeman - the architect who designed Trellick Tower (Erno Goldfinger) also designed parts of the Brownfield Estate only round the corner to RHG and that is listed also.

Sven - Richard Rogers did want to save it. He was invited to live there. He did not respond. However most of moaning about living there is about the maintenance standards of the building. Not the building itself.

Re: Robin Hood Gardens
Ain't Balfron Tower just across East India Dock Rd listed? Another shit hole eyesore that should be pulled down

Sven Roeder 11:54 Sun Oct 4
Re: Robin Hood Gardens
Is this one of those situations where Richard Rogers etc all think it is STUNNING , DARLING & everyone who actually lives in it wants it knocked down?
And when one of the tenants says if you like it so much why don't you come & live here .... you don't see the architecty blokes for dust.

Re: Robin Hood Gardens
Who wants to live in any of them shitholes.

Give me a two up two down with a street front door and garden any day.

Most of the new high rise so called luxury appartments and penthouses you can shove to.

theaxeman 11:48 Sun Oct 4
Re: Robin Hood Gardens
Its interesting Trelleck Tower is listed and Robin Hood isnt, maybe its because its in gentrified Ladbroke Grove and not the East End.

Mph 1128

Robin Hood Gardens might well be edgy and vibrant compared to many two up two down suburban dwellings however most people don't want to live with piss and shit on the staircase.
